We’re only days away from the official announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S9, but what might be the most important detail about the upcoming smartphone might have just leaked out: the price, which apparently will start at €841 for the S9 and a whopping €997 for the larger S9 Plus, courtesy of reliable leaker Evan Blass.

That works out to approximately $1,038 for the S9 and a massive $1,229 for the S9 Plus, putting both phones in the approximate ballpark of Apple’s already incredibly expensive iPhone X (which costs $999 for the 64GB model and $1,149 for 25GB of storage.) If prices hold true through exchange rates that would also make the S9 Plus the most expensive mainstream smartphone ever sold in the US. That probably won’t actually be the case, given that European prices include tax, which in countries like Germany and England can reach up 19 percent.
To put things in a bit of perspective, though, the S8 and S8 Plus were sold at €799 and €899 respectively at launch, considerably more expensive than the initial US prices of around $750 and $850 for the S8 and S8 Plus. (The Galaxy Note 8 remains Samsung’s priciest US phone, starting at $930 when it launched last summer).
