Back in 2016, The Verge selected JLab Audio’s Epic2 as the best headphones for running, and now the company is back with a new version of the excellent earbuds. The Epic Sport comes with improved and customizable sound profiles, and better waterproofing.
One of our biggest complaints with the Epic2 was that sounds could get a little bright on certain tracks. In an attempt to fix that issue, JLab Audio will let you choose from three different EQ settings — Signature, Balanced, and Bass Boost — directly from the in-line controls on the Epic Sport. The new earbuds also have an IPX6 rating, an improvement on the IPX5 rating of the Epic2. You still probably shouldn’t go swimming with them on, but they should be just fine during a run or if you get caught in the rain.
The Epic Sport has Bluetooth 4.2 with AptX technology, and will be charged via a magnetic USB charging cable, instead of micro USB, which may be annoying for some people. Otherwise, JLab Audio has kept everything good about the Epic2 in the Epic Sport. It still has a 12-hour battery life, a ton of gel eartips and fins, its memory wire earhook, and in-line controls (and microphone) that work with both Android and iOS.
